For some, the fall season marks a sense of optimism and renewed energy, more so even than the beginning of a new year. Judging by the buzz and excitement around the Tannery building, Communitech subscribes to this mindset.

At the centre of the region's tech industry, Communitech connects supply with demand, knowledge with experience and resources with know-how. Start-ups and enterprise companies alike benefit from the many programs and initiatives developed and run out of this hub. And conferences, too — we're stoked to host Fluxible here once again!

Within the first few minutes of chatting with Tony Reinhart and Chris Plunkett, members of Communitech's Media team, it was obvious there's a lot to talk about. This fall is set to be a jam packed season of tech.

Fill us in on the exciting things happening around Communitech these days

Where to begin?! There's so much going on. Here are just a few of the events happening in the region:

Tannery Event Centre

  • Waterloo TechJobs: We're pretty excited about the redesign of this site, which is *the* technology job portal for Waterloo Region. It's for both employers and candidates alike to find each other. But more than just being about jobs, it's also a great resource for learning more about the region — from why Waterloo, to what it's like to have a career here.

  • Center Stage on Sept 18: Formerly known as Demo Day, here's your chance to watch the hottest startups in the area taken centre stage and make their pitch. It's designed to give you the first look at the progress and accomplishments of our current cohort and selected alumni. And we're thrilled to bring the 401 series to this event; it's an opportunity to showcase startups from Toronto accelerators, too.

  • City Age: The Innovation City on Oct 9-10: Only the second of its kind here in Waterloo Region, this conference focuses on how companies and community leaders can play a role in shaping the future of their city. There will be extra attention paid to super-cluster buildings and how best to connect cities. It's why having MaRS on board as a foundational sponsor this year is extra special — it's yet another collaboration with our neighbours in Toronto.

  • Techtoberfest on Oct 16-17: Where steins, leiderhosen and polkas meet techies, startups and investors! We recognize the need for more VC investment in Canada both locally and from outside the region, as startups need capital to grow and attract talent. As a result, this year's event will have a focus on getting your business venture capital (VC) ready. It's a great event for small to medium size business in the process of, or soon to be, fundraising.

What made Communitech get behind Fluxible again this year?

Fluxible plays a key role in growing the design community and that aligns with our mission of building stronger connections between communities.

It's a great opportunity to let people who live outside of the region know about all of the great stuff that's happening here. You can see that even in the other Fluxible sponsors, with companies such as Heist (based in Toronto) getting behind the event.

And of course, Robert Barlow-Busch and Mark Connolly are awesome!

Awwww, now you've made us blush! We wouldn't be here without the support of our awesome sponsors like Communitech. Thank you!
