1:55pm – 2:00pm EST Sunday 22 Sep 2019CIGI

Julian Berg is a flamenco guitarist from Oslo, Norway, who has trained with renowned flamenco guitarist, Paco Peña in The Netherlands. He is now a permanent resident of Canada and co-runs CalúJules—Flamenco Plus, through which he offers Flamenco classes in the Waterloo Region, as well as team-building workshops that utilize Flamenco’s interdisciplinary nature to cultivate active-listening, co-creation, and interaction. He is also one of the co-founders of the Little KW Flamenco Fest, one of the Region’s newest multi-cultural contributions to our family-friendly art scene.

Carmen Romero is known for her powerful performances. “She … delivers flamenco with a raw immediacy that is far closer to the source than a lot of the theatrical Spanish dance…” (Toronto Star). Romero is the founder of Compañía Carmen Romero, a flamenco dance and music collective based out of Toronto. She has now further immersed herself in professional development supported through the Canada Council for the Arts to further excavate deeper inquiries of her work. This has resulted in developing a rich aesthetic that reflects her desire to exploit flamenco as a language of expression.

Attendees of the 2019 Fluxible Conference will witness Julian Berg and Carmen Romero’s first collaboration as a dancer-guitarist Flamenco duo.
