Fluxible 2013 Venues

Our conference venues are located within walking distance of each other in downtown Kitchener. Nearby you’ll find a selection of restaurants, shops, and cafes.

School of Pharmacy

Main Venue

10 Victoria St S A, Kitchener, ON N2G 1C5, Canada (map)

Talks and workshops take place at the University of Waterloo’s School of Pharmacy, located at King and Victoria in downtown Kitchener. This striking building is known for its modern design and unique glass facade featuring medicinal plants. It’s an open and attractive space for a weekend of learning, laughs, and geeking out over design.

THEMUSEUM

Party Venue

10 King St W, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A3, Canada (map)

After your workshop ends on Saturday afternoon, take a stroll down King Street for a chance to kick back or let loose at Fluxible’s dinner party. THEMUSEUM isn’t a place with dusty exhibits and velvet ropes — rather, it’s a living space that celebrates ideas and experiences.

The Walper

Hotel

20 Queen St S, Kitchener, ON N2G 1V6, Canada (map)

We’ve secured a block of rooms at The Walper Hotel in downtown Kitchener. This boutique hotel is within walking distance of the conference venue and directly across the street from Saturday night’s party.

Travel Tips

Driving from out of town?

Traffic into and out of Kitchener-Waterloo is usually pretty good on weekends, so you should have smooth sailing. If you’re arriving Friday night, do your best to avoid highway 401 during rush hour from about 3:30 to 6:30 pm. Traffic can get pretty nasty at those times.

Tips for Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ)

As Canada’s largest airport, YYZ will offer the widest range of options for your itinerary. When traffic is clear, the drive from YYZ to downtown Kitchener takes a bit less than an hour. During rush hour on weekdays (about 7:00–9:30 am and 3:30–6:30 pm), the trip will certainly take longer — 90 minutes normally, but it could be over 2 hours if any accidents occur along the way. Highway 401 (pronounced “four-oh-one”) has the dubious honour of being regarded as North America’s busiest highway. If you need transportation from the airport, be sure to make a reservation before your trip. We recommend:

  • Airways Transit. Shared ride in a van with up to about 7 people. Catch your ride at the Ground Transportation Desk in any airport terminal. Door to door service costs $90 each way.
  • FiveStar Limousine. Enjoy the trip in a private, luxurious car. To get specialpricing of $270 round trip, email info@fluxible.ca and we’ll introduce you to our contact.

Tips for Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF)

YKF is more convenient than Toronto airport because of its proximity to the conference venues. However, flight options are far more limited, and you’ll tend to pay a premium, too, so be sure to compare flights through both airports. No matter when you arrive, the drive between downtown and YKF will take only 15 to 20 minutes. Expect the cab ride to cost about $35 each way, and taxis are usually available when you exit the terminal. If not, call either City Cabs at (519) 747-7777 or Waterloo Taxi at (519) 888-7777.
