Kitchener, ON, the home city of Fluxible, is host to a plethora of interesting buildings. Our talk and workshop venues are among them, as is the site of Day 1's party. Let's get to know them a little, shall we?

Conrad Centre

The Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts

Formerly the King Street Theatre Centre, this venue was in danger of closing when it ran up too much debt. Cue the Manfred & Penny Conrad Family Foundation to the rescue, bringing this downtown icon back from the brink and renovating it into the cultural hotspot it is today. Designed for theatre and live music, there is no bad seat in the house for our thrilling Fluxible talks. This venue has wraparound seating and space to spare, as well as a rehearsal hall for decompressing between talks, and a sunny patio for those who delight in our mother star.

Communitech Hub

The Communitech Hub

Day 2 brings us to the Communitech Hub, a super-cool digital media innovation centre set into the bones of the Lang Tannery building. Old and new coexist happily here, with exposed brick accented by glass and state-of-the-art digital screens. Dozens of startups and well-established companies call this iconic building home, most notably Google and Desire2Learn. This site also holds Communitech's HIVE, the Hub Interactive Virtual Environment, which displays immersive 3D surroundings that respond to the user's movements. The Communitech Hub is part of the Canadian Digital Media Network, a national initiative, and works in close collaboration with academic institutions to support entrepreneurs. They've just started Hyperdrive, a tech startup incubator. What better place for eye-opening workshops?

Kitchener City hall

Kitchener City Hall

A stone's throw from the Conrad Centre, Kitchener City Hall plays host to our party. With a chic circular interior, musical entertainment, and delicious delights, politics will be far from our minds on the evening of Day 1. Though a place of council meetings might not normally inspire the desire to party, this funky building is ready to shake it up on Fluxible weekend. Sandstone and granite won't be the only kinds of rock on site, if you know what we mean. There's plenty of room to mingle and chat, a nice view from the second floor, and great acoustics. Just try not to fall in the fountain outside.
